Advanced Manufacturing | Project: 4MW Solar Energy System
Location: Gloucester
Client Overview
G-TEM is a leading UK-based manufacturer with a strong commitment to sustainability. With operations across four UK sites, the company is targeting net zero emissions by 2035, and its newest facility aims to achieve net zero status by 2026.
-
4MW solar array installed across two Gloucester sites
10,000 solar panels generating clean energy onsite
Integrated with EV charging infrastructure
Designed to support G-TEMβs net zero and energy resilience strategy
Part of a wider environmental programme that has seen Β£2.6M invested since 2022
-
G-TEM needed a large-scale renewable energy solution to significantly reduce grid dependency, align with net zero goals, and support growing operational demands β all without disrupting manufacturing processes.
-
Solar Energy Systems partnered closely with G-TEM to:
Design a high-capacity, low-footprint solar energy system tailored to G-TEMβs facility layout
Install 10,000 solar panels across rooftops and grounds, creating a 4MW total capacity
Integrate the system with on-site electric vehicle charging for employee and fleet use
Enable real-time energy monitoring and long-term performance optimisation
Future-proof the system for potential battery storage integration
-
Significant reduction in reliance on grid electricity
Major progress toward net zero by 2035
Energy cost stability in an increasingly volatile market
Recognised as:
π Large Scale Project of the Year β South West Energy Efficiency Awards 2024
π Energy Efficiency Initiative of the Year β Confederation of British Metalforming (2023 & 2024)
-
This project supports G-TEMβs broader environmental commitments:
ISO 14001:2015 certified environmental management
Transition to battery-powered forklift fleet
Phased elimination of natural gas
Supplier expectations aligned with 2050 net zero targets
